Things to do
-
Old Town, Gamla Stan. Old Town is beeeautiful. It's the perfect place to wander aimlessly alone or in company. There is a tonne of cute boutique souvenir stores, Swedish candy stores and restaurants to stop in for lunch or dinner.
-
Oh my God - have breakfast at Cafe Schweizer. It is hands down the most beautiful cafe I've ever had the pleasure of sipping a coffee in. I sat in the laneway at a table for one and ate the most delicious yoghurt and granola with my coffee and topped it off with one of their home made pastries. Not only is the food delicious but the cafe itself is the cherry on top - it's absolutely stunning.
-
Head to MOOD Stockholm for some boutique stores and eateries.
-
Sit and have a limoncello spritz at Cafe Piazza and people watch. Their beef ragu is also to die for!
-
Just wander around. Honestly, it's one of the prettiest cities and there's so much to take in from the architecture to the shops and cafes on every corner. I spent 12 hours just walking around the city, lazing by the water under the shade of a tree, eating gelato, people watching, shopping - you name it.
Be mindful of
-
The fancy black cabs at the airport. I mistakenly got in the first cab I saw and paid $100+ for a 20 minute cab ride to my hotel. Turns out it was a special 'fancy' type cab when you can get an Uber for much cheaper.
-
You won't find a lot of people using cash in Sweden so don't worry about bringing any cash with you. I had no issues using my card for everything and I found in my research that cash is a dying way to spend over there!

The Positives
-
Stockholm feels super safe and is an incredibly beautiful city.
-
The people are all very friendly and happy to help if in need.
-
I found that the food service industry is amazing. All of my meals were always served super quick and every meal was incredibly high quality food.
-
The architecture is beautiful.
-
There's lots of open parks to lay or rest in when you're over shopping or walking around.
-
Majority of people can speak English so there's no dramas getting around or speaking to people.
The Negatives
-
I found some things to be quite expensive however I'm not sure if it was because I couldn't quite get the hang of the local currency (not Euro - Swedish krona SEK)
Final Thoughts and Recommendations
-
I spent two nights in Stockholm and upon reflection I could have stayed at least another one or two nights just to really soak in the city and do some further exploring.
-
Definitely eat as much as you can there - really explore the local restaurants and bars. The food in Sweden is some of the freshest and high quality food I've ever eaten. I'd avoid your hotel's free breaky while here and actually get out there and try some fresh bread and pastries!
